Urwa reported ‘A’isha to be saying:

I have never seen the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observing the supererogatory prayer of the forenoon, but I observed it. And if the Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) abandoned any act which he in fact loved to do, it was out of fear that if the people practised it constantly, it might become obligatory for them.

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book 4, Hadith 1548)

Abu Huraira reported. My friend (the Holy Prophet, may peace be upon him) has instructed me to do three things:three fasts during every month, two rak’ahs of the forenoon prayer, and observing Witr prayer before going to bed.

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book 4, Hadith 1559)

(And these three things are): Three fasts during every month, the forenoon prayer, and this that Ishould not sleep till I have observed the Witr prayer.

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book 4, Hadith 1561)

Narrated Abu Huraira:

My friend (the Prophet ) advised me to observe three things: (1) to fast three days a month; (2) to pray two rak`at of Duha prayer (forenoon prayer); and (3) to pray witr before sleeping.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from A’isha that she used to pray duha with eight rakas, and she would say, “I would never stop doing them even if my parents were to be brought back to life.”

2) REWARD FOR OFFERING SALAAT AL-AWWAABEEN (SALAAT DUHA PRAYER) :-

AbuDharr reported Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: In the morning charity is due from every bone in the body of every one of you. Every utterance of Allah’s glorification is an act of charity. Every utterance of praise of Him is an act of charity, every utterance of profession of His Oneness is an act of charity, every utterance of profession of His Greatness is an act of charity, enjoining good is an act of charity, forbidding what is distreputable is an act of charity, and two rak’ahs which one prays in the forenoon will suffice.

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book 4, Hadith 1557)

Narrated Abu Buraydah:

I heard the Apostle of Allah (P.B.U.H) say: A human being has three hundred and sixty joints for each of which he must give alms. The people asked him: Who is capable of doing this ? He replied: It may be mucus in the mosque which you bury, and something which you remove from the road; but if you do not find such, two rak’ahs in the forenoon will be sufficient for you.

ABU DAWOOD (Book 41, Hadith 5222)

Narrated AbuDharr:

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: In the morning alms are due from every bone in man’s fingers and toes. Salutation to everyone he meets is alms; enjoining good is alms; forbidding what is disreputable is alms; removing what is harmful from the road is alms; having sexual intercourse with his wife is alms. The people asked: He fulfils his desire, Apostle of Allah; is it alms? He replied: Tell me if he fulfilled his desire where he had no right, would he commit a sin ? He then said: Two rak’ahs which one prays in the forenoon serve instead of all that.

ABU DAWOOD (Book 41, Hadith 5223)

4) TIME FOR OFFERING SALAAT AL-AWWAABEEN (SALAAT DUHA PRAYER) :-

Salaat Al-Awwaabeen (Salaat Duha Prayer) should be offer after the sun has risen and before the time for Zuhr approaches. It is better to delay it until the day is hotter.

Zaid b. arqam, on seeing some people praying in the forenoon, said: They well know that prayer at another time than this is more excellent, for Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: The prayer of those who are penitent is observed when your weaned camels feel the heat of the sun.

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book #004, Hadith #1630)

Zaid b. arqam reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) went out to the people of Quba’ and saw them observing prayer; upon this he said: The prayer of the penitent should be observed when the young weaned camels feel heat of the sun.

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book #004, Hadith #1631)

AL-NAWAWI SAID :-

The phrase ‘Salaat al-Awwaabeen is when the young camels lift up their feet (because of the heat of the sand)’ refers to when the sand becomes unbearably hot from the sun’s heat, and burns the soles of the young camels’ feet, so they alternately raise and lower their feet in response to the heat of the sand. ‘Al-Awwaab’ means one who is obedient, or one who turns to obedience. The hadeeth also refers to the best time to offer this prayer, although it is permissible to pray it any time after the sun has risen and before it reaches its zenith.”

(SHARH MUSLIM LI’L-NAWAWI).

5) SHOULD SALAAT AL-AWWAABEEN (SALAAT DUHA PRAYER) MADE UP IF TIME FOR ITS ENDED? :-

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him)He was asked: If the Sunnah prayer of Duha is missed, should it be made up or not?

He replied: If the time for Duha prayer is missed, then the prayer has been missed, because it is limited to that time.
