“Whoever is regular with twelve Rak’ah of Sunnah (prayer), Allah will build a house form him in Paradise: Four Rak’ah before Zuhr, two Rak’ah after it, two Rak’ah after Maghrib, two Rak’ah after Isha, and two Rak’ah before Fajr.” (Hasan)

Umm Habibah narrated that Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H) said:

“Whoever prays twelve Rak’ah in a day and night, a house will be built from him in Paradise: Four Rak’ah before Zuhr, two Rak’ah after it, two Rak’ah after Maghrib, two Rak’ah after Isha, and two Rak’ah before Fajr in the morning Salat.” (Sahih)

Abdullah bin Shaqiq said:

It was narrated that Aishah (R.A.) said:

(B) TWO RAK’AH FAJR OBLIGATORY PRAYER :-

Abu Salama is reported to have said. I came to ‘A’isha. I said: O mother, inform me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). She said: His (night prayer) in Ramadan and (during other months) was thirteen rak’ahs at night “including two rak’ahs of fajr”.

(C) TWO RAKA’H (SALATUL CHAST/ISHRAQ/SHUROQ):-

Anas bin Malik narrated that :

the Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever prays Fajr in congregation, then sits remembering Allah until the sun has risen, then he prays two Rak’ah, then for him is the reward like that of a Hajj and Umrah.” He said: “The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Complete, complete, complete.'”

“When ‘Anbasah was dying, he started to groan in pain. The people spoke to him and he said: ‘I heard Umm Habibah, the wife of the Prophet (P.B.U.H) narrating that the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said: Whoever prays four rak’ahs before Zuhr and four after, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, will forbid his flesh for the Fire. And I never stopped praying them from the time I heard that.'” (Hasan)

Ibn Umar narrated that :

The Prophet (S) said: “May Allah have mercy upon a man who prays four before Al-Asr.” (Hasan)

(B) FOUR RAKA’H ASAR OBLIGATORY PRAYER:-

Abu Qatada reported it on the authority of his father: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) would recite in the FIRST two rak’ahs of the noon and afternoon (ASAR) prayers the OPENING chapter of the Book and another surah. He would sometimes recite loud enough to make audible to us the verse and would recite in the last two rak’ahs Surat al-Faitiha (only).

SAHIH MUSLIM (Book #004, Hadith #0909)

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: “The Prophet (p.b.u.h) prayed eight rakat for the Zuhr and ‘Asr, and seven for the Maghrib and ‘Isha prayers in Medina.” Aiyub said, “Perhaps those were rainy nights.” Anas said, “May be.”

(C) TWO RAK’AH SUNNAH AFTER ASAR OBLIGATORY PRAYER:-

Narrated `Aisha:

Whenever the Prophet come to me after the `Asr prayer, he always prayed two rak`at.

Narrated `Aisha:

Allah’s Apostle never missed two rak`at before the Fajr prayer and after the `Asr prayer openly and secretly.

Narrated by ‘Abdullah Al-Muzni:

The Prophet said, “Pray before the Maghrib (compulsory) prayer.” He (said it thrice) and in the third time, he said, “Whoever wants to offer it can do so.” He said so because he did not like the people to take it as a tradition.

SAHIH BUKHARI (Vol #2, Book #21 ,Hadith #277)

Narrated by ‘Abdullah Al Muzam:

The Prophet said, “Perform (an optional) prayer before Maghrib prayer.” (He repeated it thrice) and the third time he said, “Whoever wants to offer it can do so,” lest the people should take it as a Sunna (tradition). (See Hadith No. 277, Vol. 2)

SAHIH BUKHARI ( Vol #9, Book #92, Hadith #465)

Narrated by Marthad bin ‘Abdullah Al-Yazani:

I went to ‘Uqba bin ‘Amir Al-Juhani and said, “Is it not surprising that Abi Tamim offers two Rakat before the Maghrib prayer?” ‘Uqba said, “We used to do so in the life-time of Allah’s Apostle.” I asked him, “What prevents you from offering it now?” He replied, “Business.”

SAHIH BUKHARI (Vol #2, Book #21 ,Hadith #278 )

Narrated by Anas bin Malik:

“When the Mu’adhdhin pronounced the Adhan, some of the companions of the Prophet would proceed to the pillars of the mosque (for the prayer) till the Prophet arrived and in this way they used to pray two Rakat before the Maghrib prayer. There used to be a little time between the Adhan and the Iqama.” Shu’ba said, “There used to be a very short interval between the two (Adhan and Iqama).”

SAHIH BUKHARI (Vol #1,Book #11, Hadith #598)

Anas b. Malik reported: When we were in Medina, the moment the Mu’adhdhin made the call to the sunset prayer, the people hastened to the pillars of the mosque and prayed two rak’ahs with the result that any stranger coming into the mosque wouldthink that the obligatory prayer had been observed owing tothe number who were praying then.

Abdullah b. Mughaffal reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace beupon him) u saying: There Is between the two calls (Adhan andIqama) a prayer. And he mentioned it three times, and at thethird time he said: This applies to those who wish to do it.

(B) THREE RAK’AH MAGHRIB OBLIGATORY PRAYER:-

Ibn ‘Umar reported that Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) combined the sunset and ‘Isha ‘ prayers at Muzdalifa. He observed three rak’ahs of the sunset (MAGHRIB) prayer and two rak’ahs of the ‘Isha’ prayer with one Iqama.

(D) SOME DAEEF (HADEET) TO PRAY SIX RAKA’H PRAYER AFTER MAGRIB:-

MANY MUSLIM BELIEVE THAT THIS SIX RAK’AH PRAYER IS SALATUL AWWABEEN WHICH IS TOTALLY WRONG.AND HOWEVER THIS HADEET OF PRAYING SIX RAKA’H IS DAEEF (WEAK).

Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays six rak’ahs after Maghrib and does not say anything bad in between them, will have a reward equal to the worship of twelve years.”

SUNAN TIRMIDHI (Hadith 435)
SUNAN IBN MAJAH (Hadith 1167)

Al-Tirmidhi said:

This hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah is a ghareeb hadeeth which we know only from the hadeeth of Zayd ibn al-Hubaab from ‘Umar ibn Abi Khath’am. I heard Muhammad ibn Ismaa’eel [al-Bukhaari] say: ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Abi Khath’am is munkar al-hadeeth (i.e., his hadeeth is to be rejected), and he classed it as da’eef jiddan (very weak).

Al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:-

It is da’eef jiddan (very weak). There are other ahaadeeth which encourage praying between Maghrib and ‘Isha’, but they are all weak.
