HOW PROPHET MUHAMMED (P.B.U.H) TREATED HIS DAUGHTERS.
There is no doubt that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the best example for the Muslims, and his life (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the best example of how rulers should deal with their people, how husbands should deal with their wives, how fathers should deal with their children and grandchildren, how daa’iyahs should deal with those whom they are calling to Islam, how scholars should deal with seekers ofknowledge, how commanders should deal with their troops, and so on in all aspects of religious and worldly affairs.Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allaah and the Last Day, and remembers Allaah much”
(SURAH AL-AHZAAB 33 VERSE 21)
IBN KATHEER SAID :-
This verse represents the important principle of following the example of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in word and deed and attitude. Hence Allaah enjoined the people to follow the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) on the day of al-Ahzaab, in patience, forbearance, steadfastness, striving hard and waiting for relief from his Lord, may He be glorified and exalted. May blessings and peace be upon him always, until Judgement Day.
(TAFSEER AL-QUR’AAN IL-‘AZEEM 6/391)
With regard to the way in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) dealt with his daughters, he was very compassionate and wise. He had four daughters, all of whom were born to Khadeejah (may Allaah be pleased with her). They were: Zaynab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthoom and Faatimah. All of them lived until Islam came, and they became Muslim, and all of them died before him except for Faatimah, who lived for six months after he died. Compassion and wisdom can be seen in many aspects of the way in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) treated them.
HE CALLED THEM TO ISLAM IN THE BEST MANNER, OUT OF COMPASSION TOWARDS THEM. :-
Narrated Abu Huraira:When Allah revealed the Verse: “Warn your nearest kinsmen,” Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) got up and said, “O people of Quraish (or said similar words)! Buy (i.e. save) yourselves (from the Hellfire) as I cannot save you from Allah’s Punishment; O Bani `Abd Manaf! I cannot save you from Allah’s Punishment, O Safiya, the Aunt of Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) ! I cannot save you from Allah’s Punishment; O Fatima bint Muhammad! Ask me anything from my wealth, but I cannot save you from Allah’s Punishment.”
SAHIH BUKHARI (Vol. 4, Book 51, Hadith 16)
SAHIH MUSLIM (Book 1, Hadith 402)
IBN ISHAAQ SAID :-
As for his daughters, they all lived until Islam came, and they became Muslim, and they migrated with him (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
(AL-RAWD AL-‘UNUF BY AL-SUHAYLI 2/157)
HE TOOK CARE OF THEM WHEN THEY WERE SICK, EVEN AT THE MOST DIFFICULT TIMES. :-
When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wanted to go out to Badr, he ordered ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) to stay with his wife Ruqayyah the daughter of the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), because she was sick.
Narrated Ibn `Umar:`Uthman did not join the Badr battle because he was married to one of the daughters of Allah’s Apostle and she was ill. So, the Prophet (p.b.u.h) said to him. “You will get a reward and a share (from the war booty) similar to the reward and the share of one who has taken part in the Badr battle.”
SAHIH BUKHARI (Vol. 4, Book 53, Hadith 359)
HE WOULD WELCOME THEM WARMLY ,CONFIDE HIS SECRETS, & HE WOULD SAY THINGS TO MAKE THEM HAPPY. :-
Narrated `Aisha:Mother of the Believers: We, the wives of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) were all sitting with the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and none of us had left when Fatima came walking, and by Allah, her gait was very similar to that of Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) .’ When he saw her, he welcomed her, saying, “Welcome, O my daughter!” Then he made her sit on his right or his left, confided something to her, whereupon she wept bitterly. When he noticed her sorrow, he confided something else to her for the second time, and she started laughing. Only I from among the Prophet (p.b.u.h) ‘s wives said to her, “(O Fatima), Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) selected you from among us for the secret talk and still you weep?” When Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) got up (and went away), I asked her, “What did he confide to you?” She said, “I wouldn’t disclose the secrets of Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) ” But when he died I asked her, “I beseech you earnestly by what right I have on you, to tell me (that secret talk which the Prophet had with you)” She said, “As you ask me now, yes, (I will tell you).” She informed me, saying, “When he talked to me secretly the first time, he said that Gabriel used to review the Qur’an with him once every year. He added, ‘But this year he reviewed it with me twice, and therefore I think that my time of death has approached. So, be afraid of Allah, and be patient, for I am the best predecessor for you (in the Hereafter).’ ” Fatima added, “So I wept as you (`Aisha) witnessed. And when the Prophet (p.b.u.h) saw me in this sorrowful state, he confided the second secret to me saying, ‘O Fatima! Will you not be pleased that you will be chief of all the believing women (or chief of the women of this nation i.e. my followers?”
SAHIH BUKHARI (Vol. 8, Book 74, Hadith 301)
SAHIH MUSLIM (Book 31, Hadith 6005)
Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama:Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) said, “Fatima is a part of me, and he who makes her angry, makes me angry.”

HE HASTENED TO ARRANGE THEIR MARRIAGES TO THOSE WHOM HE THOUGHT WERE OF GOOD CHARACTER OR STRONG RELIGIOUS COMMITMENT. :-
Part of the great care that he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) showed in raising his daughters was that he hastened to arrange their marriages to those whom he thought were of good character or strong religious commitment. He married Zaynab (may Allaah be pleased with her) to Abu’l-‘Aas ibn al-Rabee’ al-Qurashi (may Allaah be pleased with him), who was the son of her maternal aunt Haalah bint Khuwaylid, and he married Ruqayyah to ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allaah be pleased with him). When Ruqayyah died, he gave Umm Kulthoom to him in marriage. And he married Faatimah (may Allaah be pleased with her) to ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib (may Allaah be pleased with him).
HE ENJOINED THEM TO OBSERVE HIJAB. :-
That was in response to the command of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):
“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful”
(SURAH AL-AHZAAB 33 VERSE 59)
HE SOLVED PROBLEMS BETWEEN THEIR HUSBANDS, AND HE INTERVENED TO BRING ABOUT A RECONCILIATION. :-
Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d:Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) went to Fatima’s house but did not find `Ali there. So he asked, “Where is your cousin?” She replied, “There was something between us and he got angry with me and went out. He did not sleep (midday nap) in the house.” Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) asked a person to look for him. That person came and said, “O Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) ! He (Ali) is sleeping in the mosque.” Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) went there and `Ali was lying. His upper body cover had fallen down to one side of his body and he was covered with dust. Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) started cleaning the dust from him saying: “Get up! O Aba Turab. Get up! O Aba Turab (literally means: O father of dust).

THE PROPHET (P.B.U.H) FELT SORRY FOR HIS DAUGHTER WHO WAS ABSENT, AND HE INTERCEDED FOR HER HUSBAND WHO HAD BEEN CAPTURED BY THE MUSLIMS, & STIPULATED THAT HE SHOULD SEND HER TO MADEENAH. :-
All of that points to the kindness of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) towards his daughters, and that he was very fond of them; in addition to that he wished them well and wanted to save them from the environment of kufr lest they be tempted. He loved for his daughters what they loved for themselves of good, especially when it had to do with their husbands or children. All of the above may be summed up in one saheeh hadeeth:
Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin:When the people of Mecca sent about ransoming their prisoners Zaynab sent some property to ransom Abul’As, sending among it a necklace of hers which Khadijah had had, and (which she) had given to her when she married Abul’As. When the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) saw it, he felt great tenderness about it and said: If you consider that you should free her prisoner for her and return to her what belongs to her, (it will be well). They said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) made an agreement with him that he should let Zaynab come to him, and the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) sent Zayd ibn Harithah and a man of the Ansar (the Helpers) and said: Wait in the valley of Yajij till Zaynab passes you, then you should accompany her and bring her back.
ABU DAWOOD (Book 14, Hadith 2686)
SHAYKH MUHAMMAD SHAMS AL-HAQQ AL-‘AZEEMABAADI SAID :-
“He felt sorry for her” means, for Zaynab, because she was absent and was alone, and he remembered the time of Khadeejah and her companionship, because the necklace had belonged to her.

The Prophet came in front of the people and stretched out his hands, and the child started to run here and there. The Prophet made him laugh until he caught him, then he put one hand under his chin and the other on his head and kissed him, and said, “Husain is part of me and I am part of him. May Allah love those who love Husain. Husain is a tribe among tribes.”
IBN MAJAH (Vol. 1, Book 1, Hadith 144)
It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Shaddad, this his father said:”The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) came out to us for one of the nighttime prayers, and he was carrying Hasan or Husain. The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) came forward and put him down, then he said the Takbir and started to pray. He prostrated during his prayer, and made the prostration lengthy.” My father said: “I raised my head and saw the child on the back of the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) while he was prostrating so I went back to my prostration. When the Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h) finished praying, the people said: “O Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h), you prostrated during the prayer for so long that we thought that something had happened or that you were receiving a revelation.’ He said: ‘No such thing happened. But my son was riding on my back and I did not like to disturb him until he had enough.'” (Sahih)

She went to ask the Prophet for servant, but she did not find him (at home) and had to inform `Aisha of her need. When he came, `Aisha informed him about it. `Ali added: The Prophet (p.b.u.h) came to us when we had gone to our beds. When I was going to get up, he said, “‘Stay in your places,” and sat between us, till I felt the coolness of the feet on my chest. The Prophet (p.b.u.h) then said, “Shall I not tell you of a thing which is better for you than a servant? When you (both) go to your beds, say ‘Allahu Akbar’ thirty-four times, and ‘Subhan Allah’ thirty-three times, ‘Al hamdu ‘illah’ thirty-three times, for that is better for you than a servant.” Ibn Seereen said, “Subhan Allah’ (is to be said for) thirty-four times.”

THE PROPHET CARE FOR HIS DAUGHTERS CONTINUED EVEN AFTER THEY DIED. THAT IS REPRESENTED IN THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLES.
HIS CONCERN ABOUT THEIR WASHING, AND HIS GIVING ONE OF HIS GARMENTS FOR SHROUDING ONE OF THEM. :-
Narrated Um ‘Atiyya al-Ansariya:Allah’s Messenger (p.b.u.h) came to us when his daughter died and said, “Wash her thrice or five times or more, if you see it necessary, with water and Sidr and then apply camphor or some camphor at the end; and when you finish, notify me.” So when we finished it, we informed him and he gave us his waist-sheet and told us to shroud the dead body in it.

Umm ‘Atiyya reported:When Zainab the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) died, he said to us: Wash her odd number of times, i. e. three or five times, and put camphor or something-like camphor at the fifth time, and after you have washed her inform me. So we informed him and he gave us his under-garment, saying:” Put it next her body.”
