AUTHENTICITY OF HADITH THAT PROPHET (P.B.U.H) USED TO TEACH DUAA BEFORE ARRIVAL OF RAMADAAN.

Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah ibn Samit (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) use to teach the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum) the following Du’a when the Blessed month of Ramadhan would arrive:

Allahumma sallimni li Ramadhana, wa sallim Ramadhana li, wa sallimhu li mutaqabbala.

O Allah! preserve me for Ramadhan, safeguard Ramadhan for me and accept it from me.

RESPONSE:-

I have noticed that some Islamic websites are narrating this Hadith without checking the authenticity of hadith. This is an example of why we should be very careful regarding what we read about Islam on the internet. We have an obligation to accurately cite and source every saying that is attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) so that we will not be guilty of ascribing something to him that he did not say.

There has been no scholar who has graded this Hadith as sahih (authentic) or hasan (good). Rather, the only scholars I found who have commented on this Hadith is ad-dahabi.

IMAM AD-DAHABI SAID :-

Gharib.

(SIYAR UL ALUM AN-NABULA 19/51)

CONCLUSION:-

Above Hadith is Mursal, Because Saalih bin Kaysaan is not proven to have seen or heard from Ubaadah bin as-Saamit.
