PLACING HAND ON FOREHEAD AFTER OBLIGATORY PRAYER.


أَخْبَرَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَنْبَسَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ الْحَوْضِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلامٌ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ الْعَمِّيِّ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَضَى صَلاتَهُ مَسَحَ جَبْهَتَهُ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : ” أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنِّي الْهَمَّ وَالْحَزَنَ

It is narrated through Salaam Al’Tawail Al-Madaini, Zaid Al-Amee, Muawiya Bin Qura, Anas Bin Malik (May Allah Be Please With Him) that When the Prophet (Peace And Blessing Be upon Him) would complete his prayer, He would touch his forehead with his right hand and say:“I bear witness that there is no God But Allah The most merciful and the entirely merciful. O Allah! Relieve me of grief and distress.”

ALL THE CHAINS NARRATED VIA SALAAM AL’TAWAIL AL-MADAINI, ZAID AL-AMEE, MUAWIYA BIN QURA, ANAS BIN MALIK.

CRITICISM ON CHAIN OF NARRATIONS.

1) SALAAM AL’TAWAIL AL-MADAINI IS MATROOK , DAEEF.

2) ZAID AL AMI IS DAEEF.

1) SALAAM AL’TAWAIL AL-MADAINI IS MATROOK , DAEEF. :-

Salaam Al’Tawail Al-Madaini is “Matrook” rejected.

IMAM BUKHARI SAID :-

Leave him.

(KITAB AL DU’FAA MA’ TAHQEEQI TUHFAT-UL-AQWIYAS 51 : 155)

HAAKIM NISHAPOORI SAID :-

He narrated Mawdoo ahadith from Hameed Al Tawail, Abu Umru Bin Al’Ala and Thaur Bin Yazeed.

(AL-MUDAKHAL ILAL SAHEEH 144:73)

HAFIZ HAITHIMI SAID :-

There is an Ijma on his weakness.

HAFIZ IBNE HAJAR SAID :-

This is hadith is severely weak due to Salaam Al’Tawail.

2) ZAID AL AMI IS DAEEF. :-

“Zaid Al Ami” is Daeef.

(TARQEEB AL TEHZEEB 2131)

He has been declared weak by majority of Muhaditheen.

HAFIZ HAITHIMI SAID :-

From the two chain of narrations of Tabraani, The rest of narrators of one narration are “Thiqa”/Trustworthy and there is a disagreement in some of them.

I (SHAYKH ZUBER ALI ZAI) COULD NOT FIND THE SECOND NARRATION OF TABARANI, HOWEVER HAFIZ HAITHIMI IS SIGNALING TO THE HADITH OF AL BAZZAR


حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ الْخَضِرِ الْعَطَّارُ ، ثنا عُثْمَان بْنُ فَرْقَدٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ الْعَمِّيِّ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ جَبْهَتَهُ بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى ، وَيَقُولُ : ” بِسْمِ اللَّهِ لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ، أَذْهَبَ عَنِّي الْهَمَّ وَالْحَزَنَ

CRITICISM ON CHAIN OF NARRATIONS.

1) HARITH BIN AL-KHAZAR AL-ATAAR IS MAJHOOL.

I (Shaykh Zuber Ali Zai) could not find about Harith Bin Al-Khazar Al-Ataar in any book. And this is quite possible that between Uthman Bin Farqa and Zaid al Ami he dropped/skipped Salaam Al’Tawail. And even if he did not skip/drop Salaam Al’Tawail, this Sanad is “Rejected” due to Harith Bin Al-Khazar Al-Ataar being Majhool.

دَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي كَثِيرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى وَفَرَغَ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ مَسَحَ بِيَمِينِهِ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ، وَقَالَ : ” بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَذْهِبْ عَنِّي الْهَمَّ وَالْحَزَنَ

It is narrated via the sanad of Katheer Bin Saleem and Anas Bin Malik (May Allah Be Pleased With Him) that When the Prophet (Peace And Blessings Be Upon Him) would complete his prayer, He would rub his forehead with his right hand and would say:“In the name of Allah except whom there is no true Lord. O’ Allah relieve me of my grief and distress.”

CRITICISM ON CHAIN OF NARRATIONS.

1) KATHEER BIN SALEEM IS MUNKARUL HADEES, MATROOK.

IMAM BUKHARI SAID :-

“Munkarul Hadeeth”.

(KITABUL DUAFA’ TEHQEEQI TUHFATUL AQWIYA 316)

Whoever is graded Munkarul Hadees by Imam Bukhari, Then according to him narrating from such a narrator is not permissible.

(LISAN UL MEEZAN VOLUME 1 PAGE 20)

IMAM NASEEI SAID :-

“Matrook Ul Hadees”.

(KITAB UL DHUAFA’ WAL MATROKEEN 506)

The narration of a “Matrook” narrator is not reliable in “shawaahid and mutaaba’aat” too.

CONCLUSION :-

THIS NARRATION IS “SEVERELY WEAK” VIA ALL ITS THREE ROUTES.

IMAM ALBANI SAID :-

“Daeef Jiddan severely weak.

(SILSILA DAEEFA 114/2 HADEES 660)

IMAM SUYUTI SAID :-

“Daeef”.

(JAMI UL SAGHEER 6741)

In Short, the conclusion of the above discussion is that; There is no evidence of placing hand on forehead and reciting dua after finishing Salaah from The Prophet (Peace and Blessings Be upon Him), Sahaba ( May Allah be Pleased with Them All) and Tabieen (May Allah Have Mercy Upon Them All). Thus we should refrain from this act.

AHMAD RAZA KHAN SAID :-

Weak hadeeth cannot prove anything which has not been authentically narrated.
